Did a gay student accuse you of homophobia?  Bye bye to your academic career

Heather Snow, Student Affairs associate vice president and dean of students, helped Watson write a complaint against Klocke and instructed Daniel Moore, Academic Integrity associate director, in the handling of the case’s investigation, according to the suit.

The lawsuit states that Watson made unwanted sexual advances toward Klocke during class on May 19, and that after denying those advances, Watson sent an emailed complaint to Snow. That email said Watson commented about privilege in today’s society, and Klocke then opened his laptop and typed into his web browser’s search bar “gays should die.”

It's now a crime to rejected gay men because if you do then you could have a Title IX lawsuit filed against you!  I hope the school and the gay guy get absolutely torn to pieces.  I want examples made of these people.

New from MIT Press, which according to their website is "...committed to re-imagining what a university press can be. Known for iconic design, rigorous scholarship, and creative technology, the Press advances knowledge by publishing significant works by pioneering international authors": Communism for Kids!

Quote
Once upon a time, people yearned to be free of the misery of capitalism. How could their dreams come true? This little book proposes a different kind of communism, one that is true to its ideals and free from authoritarianism. Offering relief for many who have been numbed by Marxist exegesis and given headaches by the earnest pompousness of socialist politics, it presents political theory in the simple terms of a children’s story, accompanied by illustrations of lovable little revolutionaries experiencing their political awakening.

It all unfolds like a story, with jealous princesses, fancy swords, displaced peasants, mean bosses, and tired workers–not to mention a Ouija board, a talking chair, and a big pot called “the state.” Before they know it, readers are learning about the economic history of feudalism, class struggles in capitalism, different ideas of communism, and more. Finally, competition between two factories leads to a crisis that the workers attempt to solve in six different ways (most of them borrowed from historic models of communist or socialist change). Each attempt fails, since true communism is not so easy after all. But it’s also not that hard. At last, the people take everything into their own hands and decide for themselves how to continue. Happy ending? Only the future will tell. With an epilogue that goes deeper into the theoretical issues behind the story, this book is perfect for all ages and all who desire a better world.

Author "Bini Adamczak is a Berlin-based social theorist and artist. She writes on political theory, queer politics, and the past future of revolutions."

Fredric R. Jameson, Knut Schmidt-Nielsen Professor of Comparative Literature, Professor of Romance Studies (French); Director of Institute for Critical Theory, Duke University, says, "This delightful little book may be helpful in showing youngsters there are other forms of life and living than the one we currently ‘enjoy’; and even some adults might learn from it as well. At a time when our younger generations are not only dissatisfied but active enough to have some new thoughts of their own and to look around seriously for alternatives, political pedagogy has a real function and might well, as here, be reinvented in new ways."

It's never too early to get rid of your child's bourgeois propaganda and open his or her eyes to the glory of the labor of the proletariat!

The book portrays capitalism as one single system and has communism have as many colors as a rainbow.

It doesn't cover the fact that there are more models of capitalism than there are communism and that communism has yet to work(the book states the communism failures were not real communism and that the failures were acts of propaganda from capitalists).

A big theme of it is that life is fine BUT IT COULD BE EVEN BETTER IF WE RE-INVENT THE WHEEL AND ALSO SILENCE DISSENTERS! Because experimenting with whole societies is what the people with the correct opinions are allowed to do.

It doesnt matter how kid friendly they make it or how many bright colors or pop ups they put in it; there is nothing more boring on earth than economics and government.
"I'm really boring. My current hobbies right now are playing Animal Crossing on the DS and... I dunno, I did a bit of knitting last night for the first time in months after boy broke up with me over the phone (I can only cast on and knit stitch though). I surf the internet like every other person in the entire fucking world. I constantly have ideas that I never follow through on. I want to be a nurse someday. I want to drive. I nearly got my licence a few years ago but blacked out at the wheel due to my (90% now-cured) anorexia and haven't driven since."

In what world is a communist system less authoritarian than modern capitalism?  In a capitalist system, you have virtually limitless choice and limitless opportunity.

Well you see capitalism requires money to do things which 99% of the people don't have.

In communist system you don't need money and just need connections and all good communists know the right people to tap in order to get hings done. I mean communists are for the people and you're not one of those unsavory dissenters now are you?

Since you need to have good connections and hook ups to get anywhere in a communist society it cracks me up how every communism loving retard is a social skill-less autist.

Correct. Also, right-wing points of view are Hate Speech not free speech, misgendering is violence and therefore physical violence is acceptable to Trump supporters.  Also, guns should be illegal but we should have a secret cache in order to defend ourselves from Trump supporters at our riots

There is no difference between free speech and hate speech. Free speech laws exist specifically to protect offensive "dangerous" speech. Why is this so hard to get? What other kind of speech do they think would even require legal protection?

The administration of the University of California (UC) system hid $175 million in budget reserve funds from state officials, a new review found, prompting the state’s auditor to call for “significant change” at the top to strengthen public trust in the system.

In the audit, released Tuesday, State Auditor Elaine Howle urged California Gov. Jerry Brown and other lawmakers to increase oversight of the office of President Janet Napolitano.

The audit also found that UC pays more for top administrative talent than other state agencies, with Napolitano’s top executives earning “significantly higher salaries” than state employees in similar jobs. The 10 executives analyzed had combined salaries of $3.7 million, or $700,000 more than those of their highest-paid counterparts statewide, after adjusting for cost of living.

In 2014-15, Napolitano also maintained many more top managers than needed, the audit suggests.

haidt's a left-leaning centrist who's nonetheless down with the possibility of racial differences, thinks assimilation is important, and that the left has certain tenets it treats as sacred beliefs which cannot be challenged, which he thinks undermines academic and public discourse.  his book the righteous mind is really good.

I am a citizen of a country with laws against hate speech - and that country is not one whit less free than the United States, nor am I as a citizen one whit less free than I am in the USA.

It gets better:

Quote
When did speech became a weapon?

Ulrich Baer said it better than I can: ""Some things are unmentionable and undebatable, but not because they offend the sensibilities of the sheltered young. Some topics, such as claims that some human beings are by definition inferior to others, or illegal or unworthy of legal standing, are not open to debate because such people cannot debate them on the same terms. ...
The idea of freedom of speech ... means balancing the inherent value of a given view with the obligation to ensure that other members of a given community can participate in discourse as fully recognized members of that community. Free-speech protections ... should not mean that someone’s humanity, or their right to participate in political speech as political agents, can be freely attacked, demeaned or questioned...
What is under severe attack, in the name of an absolute notion of free speech, are the rights, both legal and cultural, of minorities to participate in public discourse."

First paragraph:

Quote
At one of the premieres of his landmark Holocaust documentary, “Shoah” (1985), the filmmaker Claude Lanzmann was challenged by a member of the audience, a woman who identified herself as a Holocaust survivor. Lanzmann listened politely as the woman recounted her harrowing personal account of the Holocaust to make the point that the film failed to fully represent the recollections of survivors. When she finished, Lanzmann waited a bit, and then said, “Madame, you are an experience, but not an argument.”

i read that as him just quoting what the university said though i acknowledge your interpretation could be correct.

his views on conservatism are interesting because he'd always been the classic liberal leftist before needing to go teach at a business school when he decided to pick up conservative intellectual writings and found 'oh wow there's some good shit here'.

on left vs right morals he says conservatives have a broader moral base that includes things like authority and sanctity.  also he  says when the two sides look at fairness, the left is simply about equality whereas the right is proportionality (getting what you deserve), although all but those at the extremes mix the two in some balance.
