Underwater shrine appears to represent the beginning of space and time in Mesoamerican mythology.

Mexican archaeologists have identified a stone “tetzacualco” – or shrine – that they think could have been constructed as a “miniature model of the universe”.

With the shrine placed in the middle of a pond, the archaeologists that discovered it suggested that it is a representation of this origin story for the beginning of time and space – “a miniature model of the universe”.

Can: build model of the universe.
Can't: invent the wheel, fend off double digit number of angry Spaniards.

Now that all the nutballs are on the SJW side instead of seeing Jesus in their French Toast they see KANGS at the bottom of sacrificial lakes.

I'm pretty sure that looks like a burial altar where they would set up sacrifices by fire. Those would be out in the middle of lakes because the embers wouldn't be able to catch anything else on fire.

Also the Mayans had no way to record the universe outside of visible star placement, which every other culture also did.

I think it was mayans that drowned sacrifices in cenotes, and threw in tons of other material sacrifices like pottery, jewelry, etc. Afaik aztec and other nahuatl culture sacrifices didn't involve drowning or water at all, but I may be wrong.
