I remember when the SDMB was limping along and people wanted to donate money for new servers The Chicago Reader couldn't accept donations for some legal reason, which is why they went pay to post. Are donations to a business enterprise taxed differently to earned revenue in the US?

He can, but, presumably, any donation made on SA would be taxed as income.

owning your own physical servers and other gear in 2015 that run your for-profit site is quite a good idea, and economical too, esp if they're from 2003 (they really made the best shit then)

You underestimate how many women see men like Lowtax as projects. If she's a rescuer, she's going to blame the evil ex for Lowtax being broke and overlook the fact that he's never bothered to acquire marketable skills. They got married pretty quickly, which means she didn't think too deeply about what kind of person would leave their kids with a transdiaperfur.
