Let me introduce you to one of the biggest pieces of shit on the planet. Fire has been around since 2002 in fact, and has a long and storied history of fighting for social justice on a comedy forum. He was a powerposter in LF and can now be found shitting up every GBS thread in site. So lets learn a bit more about this fella.
First things first, Fire has changed his name. After GiP relentlessly made fun of him for a post he made 10 years ago (I'll get to that shortly), he changed his name to Fire Cures Bigots. This was done because apparently everyone in GiP is a bigot for making fun of him.
Now what were they making fun of him for? Fire likes computer games. Not Battlefield and Mass Effect mind you, something a bit different. His game of choice is Princess Maker 2. This game is about raising a 10 year old girl. You can do all sorts of things such as dress her up in sexy outfits, whore her out to rich socialites, or buy her a dominatrix outfit that you can masturbate to. Lets call it entertainment for the lazy pedophiles.

This review sent Fire into a frenzy and he proceeded to make a thread defending the honor of Princess Maker 2. It is both a hilarious and sad experience to read through. People have been purchasing avatars for Fire that point people to the thread. He gets angry at this and has replaced it a few times already. It is becoming expensive to protect his e-reputation.
With that out of the way, lets talk about who modern day Fire is. He is all about class warfare and talks frequently about starting a revolution. He makes frequent references to killing rich people for the crime of having more money than him. I'll let some quotes speak for themselves.

Obama, democrats, I know you're data mining this conversation so let me just say that is it. I am done with you. I have lost all respect for you. You don't even get to be the lesser of two evils. This was your idea and I am done. My respect for you can't get any lower. At least with republicans I know where I stand. You are two faced sell outs who have abandoned everything I originally liked about you. Last election I cast a protest vote for the greens but went straight d down the ticket. Fuck that. I'm not voting for you anything but "revolution" from now on.

Well, its part of the problem, people have a rose tinted view of the police. The police are not your friend. Their job is to arrest and gather evidence to prosecute you. They only "serve and protect" the interests of the elite.
Our media has pretty much created a narrative about Chavez as being a populist dictator, mainly because they are corporate shills that he has opposed.
I really wouldn't blame social liberals for that. I do think the progress being made on social issues is a mask for the total domination the elite have over both parties. The elite are just fine with social issues, some of them are even gay themselves and progress would happen, whether the new deal was sold out or not. The New Deal is being sold out because the leaders of the Democratic Party, the people holding their purse strings, want it.
Personally I refuse to make that choice and want to just vote for burning it all down.
The practice of plea bargaining and piling on charges pretty much guarantees only the very rich will even consider using their right to have their day in court, even when the charges are ridiculous. That people are saying that there is any justice in this because of plea bargain is perfect evidence of that. Plea bargaining means people are penalized, far more heavily than they are for the crime itself, for asserting their innocence.
I used to be more of a white knight about free speech and I certainly understand the argument. What I have come to believe now is that the liberal free speech for everyone or no one, black and white view is unnecessary. There really is no slippery slope from hate speech bans to banning all unpopular speech. Moreover, hate speech is itself not peaceful. Being the recipient of hate speech based on your status is being the recipient of a sort of terrorism. It has a chilling effect on your own behavior and activities. Its not "a right not to be offended" but rather to be safe from triggering verbal assaults.
Yeah that is is why I am increasingly convinced that worker ownership of the means of production and the abolition of private property is so critical. None of the goals of ending exploitation have any hope of working within the assumptions of the liberal system even if draconian efforts could pass. I didn't always think this way, I am glad that LFers were able to open my eyes.
