It's great that "Bernier" is so close to "Bernie" too.
Quote from: George Lincoln Rockwell
The Conservatives have a slogan which I think is despicable and defeatist: "It's better to be dead than red." And the Commies and Liberals have a slogan which is even worse, it's treason, they say: "It's better to be red than dead." We say this: "You don't have to be Red and you don't have to be Dead. Not dead. Not Red. Dead Reds"

The new trade agreement that will replace NAFTA is moving forward after Canada was persuaded to get on board at the 11th hour. I haven't been following the details of the negotiations but it sounds like Trump got what he wanted with increased protection for American automakers and manufacturers.

A cap was put on Canadian auto exports which is 40% higher than the current output. This essentially puts a hard cap on how large the Canadian auto industry can grow.

Canada is going to allow more US dairy into the market.

Canada made changes to copyright legislation, extending the terms of intellectual property from death plus 50 years to death plus 75 years, and making it easier to take down sites hosting infringing materials(I assume this is to target Canadian makers of Kodi addons).

For personal purchases, amounts under $100 going from the US to Canada are no longer subject to customs. The maximum used to be $20. This is actually a huge win for the US and a huge blow to Canadian retail. Even with the currency conversion, shipping and customs in place before this changed, it was often cheaper to buy certain types of products from the US.

Instead of a sunset clause, the deal has a 16-year-term followed by a six year review period. The Canadian government wanted to extend it indefinitely, but I agree with Trump on this one. You shouldn't have the right to sign a trade deal that people 100 years down the road will have to legally abide by. They should be allowed to negotiate their own trade deal. A government being able to sign an agreement that legally binds future generations in perpetuity is tyrannical.

Both sides compromised on things they said they wouldn't. I think Trump was actually willing to compromise, but just said he wouldn't to maintain a stronger negotiating position. The Canadian media is selling it like a win, but really we ceded quite a lot to the US, the fact that no jobs will be lost in the auto industry just plays good in the media. The Canadian government is going to lose hundreds of millions of dollars a year in customs alone.

*Edit* At the end of the day any free trade deal between the US and Canada that isn't totally one sided is going to benefit Canada because we have more natural resources than the US and one tenth the people.

The Liberals have fallen in Quebec, and Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) have mounted a sizeable majority. The CAQ is big on Quebec Nationalism and plans to ban face coverings and cut immigration to the province by 20%. So far this year the Liberals lost to the Progressive Conservatives in Ontario, they had fewer seats than the PCs in New Brunswick election, but are currently trying to form a coalition government, and now they've lost Quebec. Between those three provinces, that's 62% of the country where the Liberals were unable to get a majority this year, with a federal and three more provincial elections that I know of coming up next year.

Well, a lot can happen in a year. It does show that right now people are sick of the Liberals and you only need Ontario and Quebec to form a majority in Canadian Parliament. Essentially right now he is losing his allies in provincial politics. The best chance Trudeau has of winning is if the People's Party, the new Libertarian party, picks up steam and splits the right wing vote. Either way, the provinces are some of the most powerful sub-national entities in the world. Things like Healthcare, Education and infrastructure are all handled at the provincial level in Canada. This is a clear indication that people in Canada right now trust the right more than the left with issues that affect them day to day.

Millennials espouse virtues of charity while never doing anything that would upset a lifestyle of 24/7 hedonism based on expensive consumer electronics.
