1) Stop giving taxpayer money to tech companies.
2) Stop giving big tech preferential treatment in the law.

We don't have to regulate shit, but can we stop feeding the beast?

If you stop being a cock gobbling whore of a media consumer that needs a constant stream of stimulation at all times at least one of these problems goes away on its own.

The other one is less a problem with tech companies and more a problem with the US Government. If you're seriously going to argue that companies should not take funding and tax breaks when offered by the government you are retarded. The problem is government is offering them, not that tech companies take these benefits. This is like being mad because a wolf eats chickens. I mean yeah, I agree it's bad, but it's hardly fair to blame Facebook or Google or Apple for taking money when offered. If you owned a company and the government offered you a tax break you bet your ass you'd take it.

I also don't think that Black Pigeon is making a good argument when he seemingly implies that tech firms should not have complete control over what they choose to have on their platforms as a result of receiving subsides. That comes off as almost a socialist "seize the means of production" argument because it seems to imply some sort of collective ownership or control as the result of these government tax breaks and subsidies. The argument should be for less government spending, but Black Pigeon was trying to craft a narrative of his own where he implies these firms don't have a right to discriminate against Alex Jones and essentially makes an argument for more collectivism. I fundamentally disagree with that proposition. I think you should absolutely have a right to discriminate and I have a right to take my dollars elsewhere if I don't like how you choose to discriminate.

Here's a conspiracy theory for ya:

The correct choice is to say if you don't like the way these companies discriminate, you are free not to associate with them, but Black Pigeon does not want to tell you to get off social media, because he relies on it to push his Patreon and make money, so he's going to make a hypocritical round about argument for more government intervention. When he argues that social media cannot discriminate against any content or they become a publisher who in turn is responsible for all content on their platform, he knows social media companies cannot possibly take legal responsibility for all content posted to their platform and still exist. Therefore, were such a legal precedence to exist, it would protect his ability to use social media to push his Patreon. He is making the argument because he does not want to be cut off from the tit. I don't blame the man for trying to make money any way he can, but there is a clear ulterior motive to his argument here, and I think you are extremely naive if you take his intentions at face value.

To reiterate, I think Facebook absolutely has a right to choose what does and doesn't get stored on their servers, and I do not necessarily think that means they should be held legally responsible for content created by others that gets stored on their server through mass automation if they demonstrate an effort to remove content that violates federal law when it is found. If you don't like the way Facebook operates get off Facebook. I have not been on Facebook for six years now because I do not like the way they operate. Grow a fucking dick.

I dictate my posts into a Smith-Corona Mail Call, then send the tape loop by air mail to a typist who faxes the completed work to a computer operator in an undisclosed location.

Quote from: George Lincoln Rockwell
The Conservatives have a slogan which I think is despicable and defeatist: "It's better to be dead than red." And the Commies and Liberals have a slogan which is even worse, it's treason, they say: "It's better to be red than dead." We say this: "You don't have to be Red and you don't have to be Dead. Not dead. Not Red. Dead Reds"

Rumor is BPS is connected with Canadian high finance and his shitlib family were historically major backers for gold mines in the SW United States and eventually Canada (hence his dual citizenship). Don’t know, but he’s got the Jordan Peterson syndrome of being well-off yet still asking for Patreon bucks. BPS is particularly gregarious here - dude lives in central Tokyo, admits he freely travels the world for his own amusement, and takes Patreon bucks. Basic bitch or intelligence asset, take your pick because it’s the same difference.

I don't have a problem regulating tech companies because private businesses haven't had control over who they get to serve for over 50 years (see: niggers, faggots, women, etc.).  Not sure why Facebook and Twitter get to enjoy the ability to block whoever they want while a corner restaurant can't put up a sign that says "no niggers."

That could have changed with the SCOTUS ruling about being able to deny baking fags a cake but the ruling made it clear that it was specifically designed for that one instance.  The left doesn't get to have it both ways :jesse:

Everything you say on Facebook is treated as if it were public however it also can censor anything you post on it as it pleases. We should not allow social media to become a government controlled monopoly even though it already is.
The fact that I never gave Lowtax my money is a personal point of pride for me.

Ive been mulling this over for the last few days because I ultimately have conflicting principles. On the one hand I don’t think these private corporations should be nationalized or heavily regulated, at the same time they have come to fill an undeniable role in international communication of surprising importance (alt media news, political comment, etc)

Ideally I’d think an expansion of the First Amendment would be best, extend it to include censorship by private organizations. The issue there is you start to run up against Free Association. Is not publishing a book censorship? It certainly *could* be, it could also just be a shitty book that won’t make any money. This is also very unlikely as if anything half the country wants to restrict free speech at the moment.

I wonder if something like YouTube/Facebook (and other case by case situations) could be declared a “Public Spaces” and therefore be subject to existing free speech protections. Somewhat like speakers corner in the UK? Obviously illegal shit would still be illegal, but  I mean fuck, if Trumps twitter can’t block people why should Twitter be able to block anyone? Ironically it’d probably spell the end for Twitter if they were no longer able to block bots and other trash accounts, you’d get endless streams of half intelligible phishing scams, but twitter needs to die anyway.

Alternative media is too important in undermining and killing old media to not do anything, but it’s also too important to do the wrong thing

I’m familiar with the term but was under the impression that also carried a certain amount of baggage as far as things like utility regulation and such is concerned.  Regardless even then perhaps you’re right.

I think when you're providing a large public medium where users post content that advertises itself as a place where broad societal conversations are taking place, you're more akin to UPS than to some sort of members-only salon. The scale and market share of the products involved go well beyond normal marketplace conditions. I hate the idea of regulation too, but I hate having the national conversation be tightly controlled by a handful of SF lefties worse.
