We already pretty much have Socialized medicine.  If you pay into a huge pool and then the pool pays your bills, then it's essentially Socialism no matter what it is called.  That's precisely what happens in our country.  We'll have reasonable costs again someday when people actually pay their own doctor bills and consumption choices are made by the people who pay for those choices.

Outward appearance of facilities and high compensation of prominent employees do not mean that the business is actually financially healthy.

Most of the smaller hospitals are being eaten up by the major chains, but you'd be surprised at how many hospitals (especially in my old state) are basically "Here's your paycheck. . . .let's hope it clears" but I'm sure that's just for the employees and not the doctors.

By "consumption choices" do you mean choices in which healthcare coverage they choose? Or how much greasy food, cigarettes, liquor and drugs your average patient chooses to consume, thus increasing the cost of their consumption charges?

"Both" is also acceptable.

We can cut it down by a couple trillion per year by the following methods:

- Revive Operation Wetback
- Let ghetto niggers bleed out in the street instead of fixing them up so they can go shoot at each other when they get released
- Three Narcans per junkie.  If you OD the fourth time, sorry, you're SOL
- Free abortions for minorities; charge white women $5,000
- Turn fat people into biofuel

Then it will be affordable :colbert:

As unfortunate as it is when a ghetto nog is saved to nog another day, they are a valuable resource to trauma surgeons. The best trauma hospitals in the world are all in or close to ghettos and provide valuable training grounds for these surgeons.

I'm not thinking health care coverage.  I'm thinking health care period.  You go to the doctor, they send you a bill, you pay it.  In other words, insurance becomes actual insurance.  Like homeowners insurance or auto insurance.   I only use my homeowners insurance if my house burns down or somebody slips on my front steps and sues me for a million bucks.  I don't use it to redo my roof or put carpet in my living room.  If I did, then those services would mysteriously cost five times as much as they should too.

Whatever they think it will cost per year double it.
